Fly-PA Gets Released From The Hanger
Hey guys and girls - first and foremost, I want to apologize for the dearth of blog posts lately. It just felt like it would be unfair for me to keep posting while running for a seat on the board. Thanks for your confidence and bringing me back for another term.
So what is going on? Well, we've got our Fly-PA release party tonight, Thursday October 27th, at 7PM. It's at Pillagers Pub in Greenwood.
Fly-PA is technically a Three Skulls beer - we don't have a license, so we can't sell or own a beer. This beer was brewed by Three Skulls, but we provided the recipe by way of the competition we threw back in September. Jeff Smiley, the owner/brewer at Three Skulls, was kindly enough to let the winner of the competition help him brew the recipe (read: lug 50 pounds of grain up a flight of stairs)!
Jeff also agreed to host our launch party at Pillagers. What does that look like? Well, we're going to pack as many members and their friends into Pillagers Pub and drink the Fly-PA! Members got first crack at the Fly-PA at the annual meeting last Saturday. For anyone that missed it, it's good!
I feel a little vindicated - you may recall a blog I wrote awhile back, wherein I advised brewers to go for subtlety in their Fly-PA recipes. My logic was pretty simple - only the most serious hopheads are going to enjoy a super-hoppy Imperial IPA, and even then can only drink one or two at a sitting. Discretion, I said, was the way to go; a balanced Fly-PA, I said, was the smooth path the victory.
The winning Fly-PA is quite smooth. The adjective I'd use to describe it is "quaffable" - it's got a nice hoppy flavor, but it's not overpowering. I'm not sure what the ABV is, but it sure seems like it's in the normal range. It's an easy drinking IPA that one can responsibly enjoy a pint or two.
If that sounds like a winner to you, bring your friends and family (and a few neighbors) down to Pillagers tonight, rub elbows with Flying Bike members, and enjoy the first member-inspired beer!
