A Very Beery Week for Flying Bike Cooperative!
(This post authored by Flying Bike Board Vice Pres. Kevin Badger)
Your favorite brewery cooperative was all over the place during Seattle Beer Week 2013 having fun with fellow beer lovers and spreading the word about our exciting plans. Hopefully you all had a great time and enjoyed the festivities of Beer Week. As a cooperative we hosted three events and participated in one other while welcoming ten new enthusiastic member-owners! Do you have a favorite memory from the Week? Please share at www.facebook.com/flyingbikecoop .
Here are a few highlights from our events:
"Learn to Homebrew" at Sound Homebrew Supply on May 11, 2013
- We spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Georgetown brewing beer and sharing homebrew tips with fellow member-owners. Extract and all-grain brewing methods were demonstrated, and we even cracked a few special cans of 7 Spoke Stout =)
"Seattle Greendrinks: We Heart Co-ops" at Second Use Building Supplies on May 14th, 2013
- Every month, YES! magazine hosts a Seattle Greendrinks networking happy hour event with various themes showcasing community businesses and organizations. The theme in May happened to be cooperatives and was scheduled during Seattle Beer Week - perfect! We talked to a lot of people at our table who were really excited about what we are doing and shared our vision with the crowd.
"Cooperative Brewing Night" at Downtown Spirits on May 15th, 2013
- This was the first time we've ever had all of our beers flowing at the same time - a small glimpse of our taproom's tasty potential! The winners of our three competitions brewed up their original recipes for the occasion: FlyPA, 7 Spoke Stout, and our newly minted Pale Ale. These are all truly fantastic additions to the Flying Bike recipe book and we can't wait to get them into production. We also had a "guest tap" Belgian pale brewed by another member-owner, along with a few member-owners and beer lovers who brought their own bottled beer to share.
"Tour de Pints" all over Seattle on May 18th, 2013

- In our second year organizing this event, we made sure it lived up to the hype we built in 2012. Tour de Pints has become a highly anticipated staple of Seattle Beer Week over the past five years. This year, over 110 cyclists participated as we cycled from downtown to Georgetown, First Hill, Montlake, Fremont, and Ballard. Along the way we enjoyed a few pints, a bunch of laughs, and great camaraderie.
Thanks to everyone who came out to support your co-op's events!

We hope you enjoyed Seattle Beer Week 2013!
