Hottest August on Record for Flying Bike!
What a month we had!
August was definitely an exciting month for Flying Bike! So much happening this past month, and so much IMPORTANT stuff going on in the development of OUR BREWERY!
Here’s a quick recap:
In case you missed it, we had a very successful Tuesdays with the Board series in the Beer Garden at Naked City last month where we met many enthusiastic Flying Bike member-owners and shared with them our plans for the space next door! We also received many investment packets from folks – for which we are thankful! And it's always great to get together over beers and talk about plans ahead and your ideas for OUR brewery.
Membership continues to explode! We started the month with 811 members, and ended up with 855! Congratulations to Jeff D as our latest member, signing up just yesterday ! And at this pace, we will easily surpass 1000 members by year's end - which of your friends will it be? 🙂
Mid month, yours truly provided a Brewing Demonstration at the Friday PNA Farmer’s Market where I brewed up a 10 gallon batch of genuine Flying Bike FLY-PA (complete with Lavender flower additions!) that is just finishing off in my fermenter right now. These are always fun because I get to explain the brewing process to some, and talk homebrewing with some others, and recruit for the Co-op! In fact we had a couple of folks show up from clear across town to learn about the brewing process who normally don’t even make it up to the PNA – so this is a definite outreach success for the Co-op.
Also last month we opened up the new space (with our thanks to our potential new landlord!) to host our Second Open House where we shared some design ideas and let you get a “before” feel of the new space. Members and the public got to tour the space and we not only signed up a number of new members on the spot – but we received some very generous Investment checks from members (including at least one I remember that had JUST SIGNED UP as a Member!), making it a very successful evening for the brewery!
COMING UP:
2014 Flying Bike board elections. By now you should have received an email from Flying Bike that includes a link to candidate profiles. We have 3 openings and 6 well qualified candidates for you to choose from. Remember, this is one distinguishing feature of this Brewery, and that is that YOU can pick your Board of Directors to, well, DIRECT this building and operation of YOUR brewery! If you cannot find the email, or somehow lost it, please email members@flyingbike.coop so that we can send you a link to vote. YOU MUST BE A MEMBER TO VOTE.
Flying Bike Annual Meeting! This is anticipated to be our biggest annual meeting yet. Come out and meet the board, learn about our plans for 2015, and meet the board candidates (check your email for your ballot!) This year we are being 
hosted by Populuxe Brewing (deep in the heart of the Ballard Beer District) and they will have their delicious beers on tap, as well as a food truck present for us to partake of. Please RSVP at this link, to help us plan for the size of the crowd that will be there!
Also, don’t miss the judging for our CDA competition with over a dozen entries anticipated, of our homebrewer’s best attempts at the style. Be sure and come early to the Annual Meeting (11am beer judging begins). Come out and pick our next beer that will be served at your Flying Bike Taproom! (...and it's not too early to think of your clever name for the Flying Bike CDA, either!)
