Flying Bike Fresh Hop 2019

This year might have been a tough one for some backyard hop growers; the cold spring and summer has had us expecting a late harvest. Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery’s Fresh Hop brew day will be Saturday September 7th. PLEASE NOTE: You are welcome to bring in your hops even if they aren’t quite ripe, or are over ripe. Harvest time for hops depends largely on location, sunlight, etc, and with members all over the map we try to pick a day that should be pretty close for most people.

If you would like to donate your hops to your Co-op, there are only a few guidelines:

1) “Fresh Hop” refers to a beer utilizing hops that were freshly harvested. This typically means no more than 24 hours from field to kettle. We will be brewing the afternoon of Saturday, September 7th, so please DO NOT HARVEST BEFORE NOON ON SEPTEMBER 6th!

2) Please bring your hops in on Saturday morning Sept. 7th at 10am (or Friday night if you need to) in a trash bag or other container. Feel free to bring in the entire bine; we plan to have volunteers on hand to pick the hop cones starting at 10am.

3) If you know the hop variety, please indicate it and separate them if you have multiple varieties. (This is just so we know. We plan to use everything members bring in!)

4) Please check for bugs like aphids. Unfortunately, we can only accept (mostly) bug free hops.

If you would like to volunteer to come in and sort hops at 10am on September 7th, please sign up below (if you sent an email to beer@flyingbike.coop, please do not sign up again … you’re already in).  If you are just going to be dropping off hops you don’t need to sign up below; that is for us to keep track of the volunteers for hand picking.  Thanks!
