For the past week and a half – BD and I have been on a well earned vacation.  It was a Vacation from work, a vacation from house projects, and frankly, a vacation from Brewery work.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the Brewery – but it’s been a long slog up to this point – and we’ve got a whole lot of stuff to do between now and opening…

We’ve been to Mexico several times before, and it’s a great place to unwind, and drink Margaritas and Tequila – but not so much beer.  If you’re into Dos Equis, Modelo, Pacifico or Corona – you’re in the right place for that – but Mexico has not traditionally been known for good craft beers.

However – that is changing.  In San Jose del Cabo we visited Baja Brewing, and sampled some of their wares – and they have some good drinking ales.  In particular we liked their Peyote IPA.  That’s not your father’s Corona, that’s for sure.  We also visited their top floor hotel pub in Cabo San Lucas – and the views were breathtaking, and the beers pretty tasty!  (Check out what the Burro's drinking ==>  )

ramuri_brewhouseAnother pleasant surprise was wandering into a local restaurant in Cabo San Lucas – Pintada – and seeing fermenters in their front room!  It turns out that collocated in this space was Cervecería Rámuri!  And they had a pretty tasty lineup of beers, including a really excellent Strong Sour and their Chocolate Stout!

So it turns out, Old Mexico can learn new tricks!ramuri_samp

One very interesting thing though, was that neither location could quite support a full time brewer yet.  Their brewers rotated between multiple locations, and were not present at either location the couple (okay, FOUR) times we visited them.  We really wanted to meet them and talk about their beers, what techniques they use, and how they got the flavors they got – and it was disappointing to miss them.  And a real missed opportunity for them, too, to interact with their patrons, their customers...

Well, this will not be the case at Flying Bike

Here, we are planning to have a full time brewer, who will be present most every day of the week (and some weekends), working on brewing YOUR beers, and interacting with our membership and very, very accessible.  Part of the qualifications for our head brewer will be that they are going to be present to talk to our membership, lead classes, and help with events.  they will be responsible to train up our Tasting Room Staff to know all about your beers, what went into them, and how they are true to style.   And our Brewers will be glad to interact with you, the owners, to help you understand and appreciate the beer your brewery is making!

Hey – we’re back now and I'll be leading some work sessions this weekend.  Do you know which end of a roller the paint goes on?  How to sand and prime?  WE NEED YOU!  Please sign up when you get the call, and we’ll SEE YOU AT THE 'BIKE!

Thanks for all that you do, for your brewery

Cervezas!
